How Abortion Access is Related to Racial Justice
In June 2022, the United States Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade, which guaranteed individuals a constitutional right to an abortion. The United States has a complicated and disturbing history of policing the bodies of women of color, and the limitations being placed on women's reproductive rights today has had and will have extensive consequences for women of color especially. For example, Black women are 3 to 4 times more likely to not survive a pregnancy than white women. Limiting access to abortion can therefore have deadly consequences for women who cannot afford to travel to other states to obtain one (Dirks).
